Unexpected Boost to Aged Care Funding

The Government has recently announced a $287 million investment to release additional high level home care packages in 2018-19.

The result of this funding boost will see an additional 10,000 level 3 and level 4 home care packages allocated to older Australians, either waiting to receive care for the first time or being upgraded from a lower level package.

Under a Home Care Package, consumers can access a range of services including domestic assistance, transport, home and garden maintenance, social support, nursing and allied health services.

This news will be well received by many visiting an older person over the festive period. It is frequently at this time when the declining health and wellbeing of a loved one is noticed.

The announcement has been welcomed by HenderCare CEO Amanda Blight, who has stated that “this additional investment is a great thing as, once allocated, it will allow those with high care needs greater access to the supports they are needing, and with more than 120,000 older Australians on the wait list to receive a home care package, any boost to funding is well received.”
