Keeping The Love at Home ❤️

  • 3 mins

This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating two special HenderCare couples who have not only shared years together but have also received Home Care Package support from HenderCare, allowing them to continue their journey side by side in their own homes.

At HenderCare, we see love in many forms—through the care we provide, the connections we foster, and the stories we hear from the incredible people we support.

We are excited to introduce you to two couples who receive Home Care Package support from HenderCare, allowing them to continue their life journey together in their own homes.

David & Linda

David (80) and Linda (73) met through work 36 years ago and felt an instant connection. After moving around Australia to start a new life together, they finally settled back in Adelaide 15 years ago. Together, they live in a retirement village with their two-year-old dog, Molly and help other residents understand and access Home Care Packages.

We asked them the following questions:

What is one quality you admire about your partner the most?

David: She’s a strong woman. Wilful and strong.
Linda: I think with David, I’ve always felt safe.

What’s one of your favourite memories together?

Linda: Well, we’ve had lots.
David: Camping on K’gari (Fraser Island)
Linda: Going 4-wheel driving – we used to like doing that. And all of the family times together.

How has your relationship evolved over the years?

Linda: I think we know each other very well – I can tell what he’s thinking.
David: In some ways, I think it has solidified. We forgive each other very quickly now.

Do you have any advice for those looking for love or life-long love?

David: Take your time.
Linda: Get to know each other. And forgive quickly because time is short, and you don’t know how much longer you’ve got.

Fay & Alan

Fay (85) and Alan (87) first met when they were young but lost touch. Years later, they reconnected and were married quickly. They are celebrating their 21st wedding anniversary this year and couldn’t be happier with each other and their dog, Jasper.

We asked them the following questions:

What is one quality you admire about your partner the most?

Alan: In my case, she’s the person that has been tailor-made for me. In every way, you could think of. I still love her as much as I did when I married her.
Fay:  I never knew what a real marriage was until we got together; it is so different when you’re with the right person.

What’s one of your favourite memories together?

Alan: Well, a favourite memory has got to be when I took her up to Waterfall Gully for the first time.
Fay: Suddenly, everything just seemed right.

How has your relationship evolved over the years?

Fay: It’s gotten stronger.
Alan: Yeah, I think it’s gotten stronger.

Do you have any advice for those looking for love or life-long love?

Fay: From my perspective, it’s not something you can force. It’s something that you know; it’s a connection between people. You can’t force yourself to love someone.
Alan: Of course you can’t, it doesn’t work.

A big thank you to David, Linda, Fay and Alan for sharing their stories with us.

We are proud to support couples to live at home, ensuring they receive the care they need while continuing to cherish the love they’ve built over decades.
