What does an Occupational Therapist actually do?

  • 1 min

This week is Occupational Therapy (OT) Week and what better way to celebrate our OT team than by exploring one of the helpful services they can provide their clients.

If you’re not sure what an OT does, don’t worry – many people don’t.

To help, we thought we could detail how they complete a wheelchair assessment, just one of the services that they can provide.

Recently, our OT team have been busy working with clients on goals of getting around more independently.

This has included trialling different wheelchair options to work out what might be a good selection and will fit with their needs.

Our OT’s can help clients through this process, from assessing mobility needs, supporting trials in the home and community, through to reviewing setup and facilitating practice – so clients can feel confident and safe in using their wheelchair.

This is one of the many things our OT’s can assist with for Assistive Technology, and as part of supporting overall engagement in activities of daily living.
