Wellbeing goals in 2021 with Teresa Barter

  • 2 mins

Want to support your 2021 health goals? With a bit of planning, healthy eating at lunch time is more achievable and can save you some money too.

We spoke with HenderCare’s RN Clinical Educator, Teresa Barter, about the importance for setting healthy goals in the new year to maintain a consistent and balanced lifestyle.

Teresa says she wants to remind people that making positive changes to your health and lifestyle does not require massive (and often daunting) changes, but rather small steps in the right direction.

These small steps are important to be able to maintain a healthy long-term lifestyle. These can include adjusting your habits and making small, positive and incremental changes or switching out certain activities for healthier alternatives.

Another factor for achieving a successful New Year’s goal of living a healthier lifestyle is changing HOW you eat as well as WHAT you are eating every day.

If you tend to decide what is for lunch after hunger strikes it might be time to change your behaviour. A spontaneous, unstructured eating pattern is more likely to include too many unhealthy options with the likelihood of too much saturated fat, added sugars, added salt and kilojoules at the expense of fibre and important nutrients.

Healthy eating should be an enjoyable part of your routine as well as being essential to a healthy lifestyle.
