COVID-19 and flood support

Have you been affected by flooding or COVID?

If so, and you are an NDIS participant, you may not be aware of some of the items that are claimable under your NDIS plan.

To assist, HenderCare’s Plan Manager, Yvette Elson, has provided some advice about what is currently claimable for those who are affected by the recent extreme weather events and the pandemic.

Meal preparation and delivery
Meal preparation and delivery support* have been made more flexible to help you during COVID-19. Some flexibility will now continue so you can change arrangements for a short time without the need for a plan review. NDIS participants who usually have a support worker help you prepare meals at home or help with grocery shopping can use these funds to pay for meal preparation and delivery support for a limited time.

With agreement from the participant, this support can be claimed using the support item 01_023_0120_1_1: Assistance with the cost of preparation and delivery of meals.

*NDIS funds cannot be used to buy food. The NDIS can cover the cost of preparing a meal and having it delivered to eligible participants.

Direct claims for one-off deep cleans
If you have a support worker attends your home who later tests positive to COVID-19, you can organise a one-off professional deep clean for your home.
From 7 February 2022, your provider can directly claim up to $300 per deep clean from the NDIA. To organise this deep clean, contact your provider for further information.

*One-off deep cleans delivered before 7 February can only be claimed from a participant’s plan.

Flood support
To ensure support can quickly be provided to any affected participants, the NDIA encourage those affected to contact the NDIS National Contact Centre on 1800 800 110 and press “5” for assistance with flood-related issues.

The NDIS National Contact Centre are prioritising all calls from participants affected by the severe weather events.

If you need urgent repairs or replacement of Assistive Technology, the NDIS National Contact Centre can authorise funds over the phone.

At this time, all NDIA offices remain closed in Queensland and NSW.
