World Alzheimer’s Day

  • 1 min

Monday the 20th of September marked the start of Dementia Action Week 2021 including World Alzheimer’s Day.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia with an estimated 472,000 Australians living with dementia in 2021.

Dementia Australia has compiled several resources for all those affected by dementia, including self-care tips for those caring for a loved one or those who provide care for clients living with dementia.

These tips include:

  • Seek out emotional support
  • Take time out for things you love
  • Talk to friends and family regularly about the type of support you need

You can find a complete list of those tips here.

With almost 1.6 million Australians involved in the care of those living with dementia, there needs to be a greater emphasis on providing support for those who care for those with the disease.

If you know someone who provides care for a person living with dementia, we encourage you to share the above tips with them.
