Meet the Team: Linda Smith

  • 3 mins

This month we welcomed Linda Smith to the HenderCare team!

Linda joins the team as Support Coordinator in the SA office after previously working as a support worker for HenderCare.

We recently spoke with Linda to learn about her move into an internal office role and how her previous position has helped in this move.

You recently transitioned from your role as a field worker to an internal team member, how did this transition come about and how has it been?

I had worked as a support worker with HenderCare for two years, while completing my degree as Social Worker. I decided to join HenderCare to gain more experience and knowledge in my area of interest. I found out about the Support Coordinator position through an employee of the HenderCare team that I had studied Social Work with. She made me aware of that they were looking for a Support Coordinator, and that she thought I would be a good fit for the role and asked if I would be interested.  And here I am!

Do you think it is a benefit that you have experience working with the clients in a direct capacity in their homes as you now begin work as an internal team member?

Yes. Because I had built strong rapport with a lot of my clients, they would often disclose what was good and where improvements could be made and what they needed more of. I’m excited now to have different responsibilities.

What is your current role and how did you get into it?

My current role as a Support Coordinator, whereby I help clients with making the most of their funding by using the available resources to best suit the individuals.

I believe that my experience as a social worker, and support worker is what lead me to apply for role.

What is something you really enjoy about support coordination?

The capacity to be able to support and allocate resources that meet participants needs.

Can you tell me about what you’re looking forward to in your new role?

Gaining more knowledge and experience.

What is something you really enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with friends and family, whether that be finding a nice place to eat, holidays, adventures, going to the footy; go crows! and BBQ’s.

For myself I enjoy live music, going on Sunday drives to explore our beautiful country. Reading, exercising. I volunteer for people who are living rough, prepare food, I am a member of a few social justice groups, and I also do salsa dancing, and currently thinking about trying scuba diving.
