PODCAST: How to get started with a Home Care Package

Once you’ve decided you need a hand to stay at home, working out the next steps can feel overwhelming. Carmen and Jon from the HenderCare team joined Chris Ilsley on Perth radio station 6PR to have a chat about how a Home Care Package could lighten the load for you at home.
First steps towards a Home Care Package
If you, your partner, your family or your GP have decided a Home Care Package would make a difference in your life, then the first step is to get in touch with My Aged Care. You can call them on 1800 200 422 or visit their website here.
The next step is to have an assessment done. This will be done either by a local assessor from the My Aged Care Regional Assessment Service, or the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT).
You will then receive a letter from My Aged Care letting you know if you are eligible for a Home Care Package.
This is a good time to start speaking with service providers about the services you would like, and how much they will cost.
Once you have progressed in the National Home Care Packages queue, you will receive a letter from My Aged Care confirming that you have been assigne a Home Care Package. You will have 56 days from the date of this letter to enter into a Home Care Agreement with a service provider.
